SecuX X-SEED PRO: stainless steel seed phrase storage with letter tiles
The SecuX X-SEED PRO is a stainless steel seed phrase storage system for crypto wallet users who want their recovery words set in metal with ready-made letter tiles. You insert pre-stamped English letter tiles into the slots of a stainless steel frame, the first four letters of each recovery word, and lock the frame by turning its screw. The kit also has one AL5052 aluminium plate with a tungsten steel engraver for a second, engraved copy, plus two tamper-proof stickers.
What the SecuX X-SEED PRO does
-
Sets words with letter tiles: the kit holds 333 stainless steel tiles, stamped on both sides, and you insert the first four letters of each recovery word.
-
Locks shut: release the safety lever, fill the slots, then lock the frame by turning the screw clockwise.
-
Adds an engraved copy: use the included engraver to write the recovery words in the right sequence on the aluminium plate.
-
Stands up to water and fire: SecuX lists the storage as waterproof and states that the stainless steel resists fire and temperatures as high as 1454 °C.
-
Keeps the backup offline: SecuX describes it as a way to keep your seed phrase out of reach from cyber attacks.
-
Shows tampering: seal the closed storage with the two tamper-proof stickers. A broken seal tells you that someone has opened it.
Who the SecuX X-SEED PRO suits and what it works with
SecuX calls the X-SEED PRO its top-of-the-line storage system. Recovery phrases use the BIP39 list of 2048 words, and SecuX explains that no two words on that list share the same first four letters, so four tiles identify each word. The storage records only the recovery words, so SecuX rates it as compatible with any software or hardware wallet that uses the standard 12, 18 or 24 recovery words, MetaMask and SecuX hardware wallets among them. To compare, see the other X-SEED models under Security Drives, or contact us with a question about this kit.
How do the letter tiles on the SecuX X-SEED PRO work?
You insert the first four letters of each recovery word into a slot in the frame. SecuX explains that the first four letters of all 2048 words on the BIP39 word list differ from each other, so you do not need to spell out the complete word.
How many recovery words does the SecuX X-SEED PRO hold?
SecuX states that the X-SEED PRO offers storage for up to 4 backup sets of 12 recovery words or 2 backup sets of 24 recovery words.
How do I open and lock the SecuX X-SEED PRO storage?
SecuX’s guide says to slide the upper container out like a fan, unlock the frame by turning the screw anticlockwise and release the safety lever by pressing inside the long slot. After inserting the tiles you lock the frame by turning the screw clockwise.
Is the SecuX X-SEED PRO fireproof and waterproof?
SecuX lists the X-SEED PRO as fireproof and waterproof. Its figures are a melting temperature of 1454 °C for the SS304 stainless steel and 662 °C for the AL5052 aluminium plate.
Where should I keep the SecuX X-SEED PRO?
SecuX advises a safe place, stored the way you would keep valuable jewellery, property deeds, certificates and important documents. SecuX also points out that a steel backup cannot protect you against loss or theft, so it belongs in a secret location that only people you trust can reach.
