SecuX Forte USB 128 GB: an encrypted flash drive that locks itself

The SecuX Forte USB 128 GB is a hardware-encrypted USB flash drive for carrying important and sensitive data. SecuX describes it as a portable drive with built-in hardware AES 256 encryption that only your password unlocks. SecuX says its embedded encryption engine operates independently from the host system. Files placed in the Secure Folder are encrypted automatically, and pulling the drive out of the USB port logs it out and locks it.

What the SecuX Forte USB 128 GB does

  • AES-XTS 256 encryption: SecuX’s 256-bit AES-XTS hardware module encrypts the files you save in the Secure Folder.
  • Password login: the password is 8 to 16 characters and must include an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a special character and a digit.
  • Maximum number of attempts: SecuX’s guide sets the limit at 6 incorrect passwords, after which the Secure Folder is automatically formatted.
  • Automatic locking: the drive is logged out and locked when it leaves the USB port.
  • Hidden password: password input is obscured to guard against direct observation and software-based keystroke recording tools, as SecuX puts it.
  • Portable application: SecuX’s non-installable drive manager is designed to avoid leaving traces on host systems.
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1: USB-A connector, USB 2.0 compatible.

Where the SecuX Forte USB 128 GB fits

SecuX positions the drive for people who must keep data confidential while moving it: individuals in financial services who transport financial records, client information or proprietary business data, medical personnel responsible for patient records, researchers in education with confidential or proprietary data, and technology staff who handle confidential information.

It runs on Windows 10 or later and macOS 12 or later. On first use you create the password and a hint in the SecuX Forte USB application, and a Secure Folder is then created for your files. The SecuX Forte USB 128 GB is the larger of two capacities, and SecuX publishes the same interface, connector, dimensions and security features for the 64 GB model. Browse the range in Security Drives, or contact us if you have a question.

How is data on the SecuX Forte USB 128 GB protected?

SecuX specifies a hardware-based encryption engine with AES-XTS 256 encryption. Files saved in the Secure Folder are encrypted automatically, and you reach the folder only after logging in with your password.

What is the maximum number of password attempts?

SecuX’s support guide gives 6. After 6 unsuccessful password attempts the USB device is automatically reset and the Secure Folder is formatted. On the 5th attempt you are warned that one more wrong password will erase all data permanently.

Can the password be changed later?

Yes. SecuX’s guide describes a Setting button with a Change Password option, where you enter the current password, create and confirm a new one, and update the password hint.

Is the full capacity of the SecuX Forte USB 128 GB available for files?

Not all of it. SecuX states that usable storage is less than advertised due to formatting and system files.

What differs between the SecuX Forte USB 128 GB and the 64 GB model?

Capacity. SecuX’s product page gives one set of specifications for both drives, covering the interface, connector, operating systems, dimensions and operating temperature.
