SecuX X-SEED Plus: stamp your seed phrase into stainless steel
The SecuX X-SEED Plus is a stainless steel seed phrase storage kit that comes with its own steel letter punch set, for crypto wallet users who want their recovery words stamped into metal instead of written on paper. The kit has three SS304 stainless steel plates for stamping, one AL5052 aluminium plate for engraving, a tungsten steel engraver, a protective case and two tamper-proof stickers. SecuX states that the X-SEED Plus can store up to 96 words, which is 8 sets of a 12-word seed phrase or 4 sets of a 24-word seed phrase.
What the SecuX X-SEED Plus does
-
Stamps letters into steel: use the steel punch set included with the SecuX X-SEED Plus, and your own hammer, to stamp English letters and record the recovery words on the stainless steel plates.
-
Engraves as well: use the included engraver to write the recovery words in the right sequence on the aluminium plate.
-
Keeps the backup offline: SecuX describes the stored seed phrase as off the radar and out of reach from hackers and attackers on the internet.
-
Stands up to water and fire: SecuX states that the stainless steel plates resist fire and temperatures as high as 1454 °C, and that stamped or engraved letters do not get washed away.
-
Shows tampering: seal the plates together with the two tamper-proof stickers. A broken seal tells you that someone has opened the set.
Who the SecuX X-SEED Plus suits and what it works with
SecuX presents the X-SEED Plus as the more professional option, because its steel punch set gives high-quality stamping on stainless steel. The SecuX X-SEED Plus plates record only the recovery words, so SecuX rates them as compatible with any software or hardware wallet that uses the standard 12, 18 or 24 recovery words, MetaMask and SecuX hardware wallets among them. You supply the hammer and a hard metal surface to stamp on, which SecuX’s guide marks as not included. To compare, see the other X-SEED models under Security Drives, or contact us with a question about this kit.
How many recovery words does the SecuX X-SEED Plus hold?
SecuX states that the X-SEED Plus can store up to 96 words. That is 8 sets of a 12-word seed phrase or 4 sets of a 24-word seed phrase, with up to 24 recovery words on each of the four plates.
What do I need besides the SecuX X-SEED Plus kit to stamp the plates?
A hammer and a hard metal surface. SecuX’s guide says to place the stainless steel plate on a steel block or a thick steel plate, and it marks both that surface and the hammer as not included. The steel punch set and the engraver are in the box.
How do I stamp a clear letter?
SecuX’s guide says to hold the punch tight and steady at a 90° angle to the plate, with the letter facing down in the correct direction, and to strike the hammer straight down onto the top of the punch. It suggests a few good blows so that the marking is strong and clear.
Is the SecuX X-SEED Plus fireproof and waterproof?
SecuX lists the X-SEED Plus as fireproof and waterproof. Its figures are a melting temperature of 1454 °C for the SS304 stainless steel plates and 662 °C for the AL5052 aluminium plate.
Where should I keep the SecuX X-SEED Plus?
SecuX advises a safe place, stored the way you would keep valuable jewellery, property deeds, certificates and important documents. SecuX also points out that a steel backup cannot protect you against loss or theft, so it belongs in a secret location that only people you trust can reach.
